Dahlia Breeder Royalties
Supporting our local Dahlia breeders
Let’s be honest, breeding a brand-new dahlia variety is a proper slog. It takes years of trialing, record keeping, and hard work before a breeder releases a variety out into the world. The tricky part is, a breeder usually only makes a bit of cash in the first year or two. After that, the rest of us backyard gardeners and flower farmers start dividing and sharing them, and the original creator misses out.
There are no legal rules about paying royalties around here, but it just feels like the right thing to do to look after the folks who keep our patches looking spectacular.
So, I’m joining other growers that pay royalties starting this year. For every single tuber or cutting I sell from the legends listed below, $1 goes straight back into their pockets. It’s just my way of saying a massive thank you and helping them keep their brilliant breeding programs going.
If you’re looking to buy this season, definitely try to buy directly from the breeders first. But if you do grab some from my shop, you can rest easy knowing a bit of your cash is going straight back to the people who did the hard yards to create them.
As I grow my collection, I will be updating the list below.
